WANDERLUST DIARIES- Abu Dhabi & Dubai
I think that one of the few things I truly like is the wanderlust that my mom and I share. In a perfect world, we would be globe trotters and it’s amazing that we can share that feeling. So, for a short week and a couple of days which was supposed to be two weeks originally, my mom and I were in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
We spent 6 days in Abu Dhabi and truth be told my favourite part about being in Abu Dhabi was the food (yes I am a total foodie) and truthfully we didn’t do a lot of exploring which I hope to do in the future and this could be attributed to the fact that we were on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi for all the six days. In the future, though, I would love to explore the city of Abu Dhabi and enjoy the culture.
Yas Island, however, is a wonderfully beautiful place and the air just gave me renewed freshness and it was one of the most amazing backdrops for blogposts. Okay back to the food, the Yas Mall food court was a collection of restaurants and cafes that featured different international cuisines and lordy! I couldn’t even eat at all but it was amazing to try different cuisine in one location.
On our first day, we ate at an Italian restaurant, Buca Di Peppo overlooking the singing fountain at the mall and boy oh boy was the food amazing; the seafood platter was the best (an explosion of flavours; garlic, tomatoes, calamari). On the second day, it was Indian and the chicken curry was beautiful. One of my favourites was Texas Roadhouse, some of the best Steaks and ribs and the service was amazing, probably the best thing about this restaurant was the bread; freshly baked bread never hurts…. Okay apart from eating out, breakfast at the hotel was amazing; omelettes made on the spot, croissants, pancakes, fruits even the turkey bacon was satisfying beyond belief.
Okay Abu Dhabi wasn’t just about the food though; we did make it to at least two of the main tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi. But my favourite was Ferrari World on Yas Island and it was total fun because it had two of the best thrill rides in the world; (yes, I am and adrenaline junkie) Flying Aces; this ride boasts: the world’s tallest loop, (which didn’t help the sinking feeling in my stomach) The worlds steepest cable lift at 51 degrees, (again really freaky… my mom was shaken up for the rest of the day, promising never to do something like that again) and of course speeds of up to 120 km/h . Next is the Formula Rossa; this ride provides the most amazing adrenaline rush with speeds of 240 km/h in less than 5 seconds which makes it the world’s fastest roller coaster.
After the most amazing 6 days in Abu Dhabi, I wanted to immerse myself in the ‘spirit of Dubai’. I probably should have done that as soon as I got to Dubai but after a day or two of resting and chilling in my hotel room, I finally got off my lazy bum and went on a Desert Safari and I think the best part of that was just basking in the beauty of the Desert and how fine the grains of sand are and how beautifully placed.
I was just getting my groove and was hoping to make it to the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk and experience the joy of Dubai souks and hopefully had some fun blog shoots there, however my trip was cut short by NYSC drama and I had to come back home and complete final clearance in preparation for the passing out ceremony. My final joust at having an experience in Dubai was the Dubai mall and again food made an appearance as I had the best sandwich at Charlie’s Philly Steaks; that sandwich had a philly steak and bacon, like gosh all that goodness in one sandwich. Another high about the Dubai Mall was the best Starbucks wall which served as an awesome backdrop for my last blog post.
All things considered, I had a great time in the UAE and would love to go back and explore other parts of the UAE. Hope you loved this none style post…
